Ok, due to overwelming popular demand. "How to do C4C/Optical style bass in Kontakt"

Código: Selecionar todos
ok, so about the 10th person has PM/AIM/e-mailed me about that bassline I posted in the "teebee" thread. So, I'll do my good deed for the day and give you a basic idea of how to do it.

I'm not gonna give the exact settings cause quite frankly that involves opening up cubase/screenshots/scribbling down settings/etc. Basically I'm lazy and the actual concept is the important part.

For this little excercise your goin' to need

1. Kontakt

2. a computer and sequencer to run it on(cubase, logic, fruity whatever)

3. a midi keyboard with adleast 2 knobs

4. 3 different lead samples:

a. "wha" sound (I'm pretty sure there's a similar 1 in my dillinja construction kit) think ram remix of warhead.
b. a reece of some sort
c. a lead with a lot of PWM on it. I'm not gonna tell you where I got mine. But listen to the fills on Tudor Rose remix
d. a sub sample (yes I know that's 4 samples, cheeky bastards)

Bust out kontakt

step 1: load up each sample as it's own instrument, except for the "wha" sound, double that and pitch one of them up an octave. For ease of explanation set this all up like this

instrument 1: wha sound
instrument 2: wha sound an octave up
instrument 3: reece
instrument 4: lead you just ripped of the tudor rose remix
instrument 5: sub patch

Ok, instruments 1 & 2 each get EQphasers synced to LFO's. Set the LFO's to "bar" increments and set them each to a different odd numbered increment. DON'T SET THE LFO'S TO RETRIGGER!!!

These instruments also both get 2-pole low-pass filters on them. Assign the cutoff n' resonances to 2 faders on your keyboard.

But Jon? Why do we need low-pass filters if they already go
"Wha Wha Wha??" We'll get to that in a minute.

instruments 3 & 4 both get vowelEQ's on them. Sync both of these to LFO's also, but DO set the LFO's to retrigger and set them both to 1/4 notes

Now put 2-pole high-pass filters on instruments 3&4. Assign the res and cutoff to THE SAME two faders on your keyboard as you did for instruments 1 & 2.

Set the audio output of instrument 5 to a different output then your franksteinien monstrosity of filters fx and lfo's, Say audio channels 3&4 (while everything else is on audio channels 1&2)

Put a high pass eq on audio chanel 1&2, I recomend the waves renessance eq. Set that bugger to around 140-170 hz

add reverb n' delay to taste

Make sure all 5 patches are set to the same midi channel

Now plunk out a 2 bar bassline, loop that and start playing with the faders.

First i have to say BIGUP to Robert/Polarity for doing it! Gave me lots of inspiration and took me further.
Too lazy to translate it all, so i only translate the important stuff and as good as i could. Let me know if there's things you don't understand.
Hope i translated it better than google

Either use this winamp list or open the files unter the steps
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...ials/t12275.m3u

All steps

1.) Ok, we start with the V-Station. I load it into a channel and switch 1 oscillator to SAW and pitch it all the way down. In the note window (?) i only have a note on C.
Ok, wir fangen an mit der V-Station.
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...ls/1-anfang.mp3

2.) I add a second oscillator and pitch around a bit.
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...-2modulator.mp3

3.) And now the third. I try to give the saw/reece a lot of (don’t know the translation of Obertöne) that can me modulated later on. (I guess by listening to the clip you get what he means)
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...-3modulator.mp3

4.) I now load a random distortion plug in in the channel. I take the one from logic and play a bit around.
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...ddistortion.mp3

5.) I add a bit of Antares Tube to give it all a bit more power. You don’t have to do it, but I’m in the mood for it right now.
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...s/5-addtube.mp3

6.) Maybe a bit of phaser as this also wettens my pants
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...6-addphaser.mp3

7.) And another tube plug in cos i somehow like it
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...s/7-addtube.mp3

8.) I add an EQ because some frequencies get on my nerves and run a notch thru the freqs and stop it where i like it
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...als/8-addeq.mp3

9.) A reverb with short hall times is nice cos it’s so dry
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...9-addreverb.mp3

10.) I bounce the shit as .wav and load it into a sampler. I use Kontakt just because I like it a lot. Total Illness!
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...intokontakt.mp3

11.) I play a melody in the note window, cos only one note obviously sucks I usually do it to hear how the sounds sound on the different notes…so you get used to it. It’s not that unimportant.
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...1-addmelody.mp3

12.) I open Kontakt and put a low pass modulation over the saw. You should try to modulate it bar for bar.
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...12-addlpmod.mp3

13.) I load a chorus plug in the Kontakt channel, cos it sounds good and the reece likes it as well
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...2-addchorus.mp3

14.) In Kontakt I load the same saw in a second instrument to run it against the first saw…ill! http://www.producer-network.de/audi...-add-second.mp3

15.) I modulate a lowpass on the the second saw, so that there’s movement
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...econd-lpmod.mp3

16.) I’ll add a lowcut at 30Hz in the channel to prevent rumbling. So your monitors wont (???)
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...15-add-30hz.mp3

17.) I add an eq to the channel and cut a notch a bit over 500Hz (don’t understand the sentence in german as well…even beeing a german  ). That gives us an unnatural sound…and that’s what we want.
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...dd-eq-notch.mp3

18.) I add Antares Tube as i still think it’s the shit!
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...17-add-tube.mp3

19.) A reverb to wetten it up
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...-add-reverb.mp3

20.) This is all a bit too stereo, so i route it on a monobus
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...19-makemono.mp3

21.) I add a compressor to the Kontakt Channel in the mixer.
http://www.producer-network.de/audi.../20-addcomp.mp3

22.) Ok! I bounce it on C and save the .wav
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...1-bounceonc.mp3

23.) I load the bounced track into a new or resetted sampler and add more modulation of the loudness in Kontakt. That brings the groove!
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...ddvolumemod.mp3

24.) I add another lowpass modulation
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...23-addlpmod.mp3

25.) I load the same saw in the same sampler again
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...4-secondsaw.mp3

26.) I add a bandpass modulation on this saw
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...secondbpmod.mp3

27.) Another lowcut in the channel
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...als/26-30hz.mp3

28.) A compressor in the channel
http://www.producer-network.de/audi.../27-addcomp.mp3

29.) An Eq in the channel
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...ls/28-addeq.mp3

30.) To keep the first Eq I add another Eq and raise the treble for the presence
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...s/29-addeq2.mp3

31.) Ok…i think the modulation of the second saw is shit and tune it again
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...condbpmoood.mp3

32.) I play another line fort he bass
http://www.producer-network.de/audi.../31-addline.mp3

33.) Ok…better…now a delay to widen it up a bit
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...32-adddelay.mp3

34.) I add some drums just for fun!
http://www.producer-network.de/audi...34-adddrums.mp3

Other samples with the bass
