TEMPER D

<a href="http://s673.photobucket.com/albums/vv93/delementq/?action=view¤t=784564271_l.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i673.photobucket.com/albums/vv93/delementq/784564271_l.jpg" border="0" alt="temper d"></a>

Gradually gaining respect as one of very few drum and bass DJs mixing on 3 and 4 decks, the past few years has seen a meteroic rise for Temper D aka Dave Bowles. Now firmly settled in the Offkey Recordings camp, Dave was brought in by like minded artist and long time hero Raiden, and is now lucky enough to be representing the label and sound behind the decks at raves all over the world on a regular basis.

2007 saw Temper D perform in over 15 countries, including Portugal, Spain, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Poland, France, Norway, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and many more. With more solo release material forthcoming on Offkey, the launch of Temper D Productions on vinyl, and a punishing DJ schedule, 2008 promises to be an even more hectic year than the past few. Concentrating on the live aspect of crowd control DJing forced upon him by the true masters of electronic music such as Hawtin, Carl Cox and Jeff Mills, Temper's approach to performing is set firmly against the "batter all your biggest dubs" drum and bass way. Frustated with DJ's purely pushing their affiliated label or just playing the most exclusive tunes they can get their hands on, Dave makes a point of playing across the genre and adapting to the crowd in front of him. Coupled with a purist fascination with minimal techno, his sets use dance music to its full potential as opposed to a throwaway fix. Production wise this has been reflected in several minimalistic records scheduled on Offkey and the commissioning of the debut Offkey Mix album. Initially collaborating with university friend Exile on Renegade Hardware in 2002, the first release 'Warehouse' was caned by the likes of Nicky Blackmarket, Dom and Roland, and even aired on Radio 1 by the late John Peel. However, with Exile being a master of technical trickery and Temper D more concerned with the dance floor, the project was short lived, and a new partnership began with guitarist and producer Tim Robinson, aka K-Fire.

A string of releases on various labels followed, including Invader, Gain, and Concord Dawn's imprint Uprising. Between them, the tunes were supported by the likes of Klute, Raiden, Adam F, Logistics and Nu:Tone, Concord Dawn and many more. Tracks were also been picked up for Raiden's techno dnb label Off-Key, the artistic step forward which follows years of concern that drum and bass could learn from the progression and minimalism of techno. Having written on the subject for Knowledge Magazine, and spoken at length with like-minded breakthrough artist Raiden, the music itself is now there to do the talking. Years of raving to DJ's like Richie Hawtin, Jeff Mills, Robert Hood and Ben Simms, as well as the dnb fraternity has brought about an approach to the dancefloor based on patience and maximising certain moments of when the place really does go off, rather than battering the big tunes as quick as possible.

Since winning the massive Dogs On Acid DJ competition in 2003, Temper D's reputation has steadily grown and he is now one of the most in demand drum and bass DJ's on the continent.

As much a techno head as a junglist, it is behind the decks where Temper D is most at home. Driven by an attitude of making sure dance floors are always kept interested, his creative mixing marks a style coming directly from the raver's point of view. PHACE

<a href="http://s673.photobucket.com/albums/vv93/delementq/?action=view¤t=311533243_l.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i673.photobucket.com/albums/vv93/delementq/311533243_l.jpg" border="0" alt="phace"></a>

Firmly at the forefront of deep and funky Drum & Bass evolution - PHACE: After years of dedication, Phace have successfully developed a unique sound, and by doing so, have grown to one of Germany's No.1 Drum & Bass artists to storm the international scenes. Phace is a very own definition of cutting-edge music, it is all about pushing the limits, sonically. With releases on the World's respected and established labels such as Subtitles Music, Virus Recordings, Renegade Hardware, Cyanide Recordings, Shadow Law and so on, their music is in fact a style that is hard to pin down by merely ordinary words. Handled as one of the scenes freshest acts you have to experience it to understand...

FACE TO PHACE

The exploration of the mind should never be taken lightly. Laying it bear is perilous to the explorer, as in its nudity it often reveals cognitive trails capable of instantly inducing psychosis.
Meanwhile an audience of anyone brave enough to donate their (in)sanity in a consumable and concrete artistic form must ensure its complete awareness of the fragility of its own mental state, as self assessment will consequently ensue. Individuals most frequently examine themselves when confronted by their own reflection, and it becomes the point of departure for an introspective trail of thought.
The first subconscious impact is the eternal sadness of the eyes, as the mind realises its inability to garner anything more than infinite reflections of light in the instant of superficial impact, for the soul rests not in the eyes, but in the mind that searches it. As, quite simply, the most superficial of bodily aspects – the face – is once again encountered, the mind readjusts itself on its voyage of introspection to gloss over that which is most obvious in order to attempt to perceive an ounce of tangibility within the abstractions of the inner mind; a voyage which is often defeated by the fear of the truth. This does not mean that an encounter with the elusive phantom that lies beneath the visage cannot be achieved, for if consciousness can defeat the mind killer, it shall arrive prepared to face its phantom, that which is underneath, its subconscious…its PHACE.

As a trail of thought ends, so begins a trail of life: the musical journey of the Drum & Bass production outfit known as Phace. Hailing from the capital of the land on the Western border of Germany through which the Saar River flows, the psyches of Nicolas Ruoff and Florian Harres bizarrely merged by means of the little understood phenomenon of neurofusion whilst partying to the music of Drum & Bass pioneers such as Ed Rush & Optical, Photek, Konflict, Matrix and Teebee to form the unified brain behind Phace’s musical reality. This reality – influenced by the duo’s roots in Rock and early nineties Electronic and Dance music, and affected by the industrial perfectionism of German culture – is not only an evolution via modern digital technology of the analogue, deep and funky sound of the late nineties. It is an individual and new to the world creation and interpretation of feelings which is initially cold on contact, devout of all vestiges of colour, clinical in execution, with merely superficial twitches of mania to hint at what may be hidden beneath. As you continue to familiarize yourself with this new strain, its outer texture increases and you begin to perceive its intricate surface detail. Phace’s strain of music is neither just a niche or underground sound, nor is it commercial or stereotype dance music. It is a classic borderline case: it straddles the conscious and subconscious, presenting itself as a frank and introspective analysis of the mind through sound.

VICIOUS CIRCLE

<a href="http://s673.photobucket.com/albums/vv93/delementq/?action=view¤t=1528910041_l.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i673.photobucket.com/albums/vv93/delementq/1528910041_l.jpg" border="0" alt="vc"></a>

The collective known as the Vicious Circle began life in a flat in South London in 2003. Born out of a mutual love of all things Drum & Bass and with a wide range of influences, VC set out to make an impact on the ever growing worldwide DnB scene.

Five years have passed since those early hedonistic days and in that time Vicious Circle have become one of the leading lights in UK Drum & Bass.

As a production outfit, Vicious Circle have made their name through a strict quality over quantity approach to their releases.

It all started with their massive remix of pioneering outfit Universal Project’s ‘Jackhammer’ which caught the attention of legendary label Renegade Hardware as well as a number of A-List Dj’s such as Pendulum and Friction.

Rarely has such a strong debut been seen and the track immediately catapulted VC to the forefront of the ‘leaders of the new school’ category and they have steadily built on that early success with a number of key releases.

Tracks such as ‘Hellrazor’ on UP Recordings, ‘Between the Lines’ on Renegade Hardware’s Carpe Diem LP, ‘Bleak’ on Trace’s DSCi4 imprint and of course their highly anticipated debut Hardware artist EP ‘Welcome to Shanktown’ have set a standard in terms of production quality and sheer dance floor energy that few have matched.

Their talents have led to a number of high profile collaborations with the likes of Ram Records hit makers Chase & Status, the legendary Dom & Roland and new skool hero Sabre to name a few. A growing reputation as remixers with the magic touch has spawned a number of smashers such as their monstrous take on Mindscape & Chris SU’s ‘Planet X’ with RymeTyme and has also alerted the likes of Ed Rush & Optical and Cause 4 Concern so expect to see VC grace Virus & C4C Recordings in the near future.

Vicious Circle continue to destroy the myth that producers generally can’t DJ with regular highly acclaimed appearances at events such as Renegade Hardware at The End, Breakin Science, Therapy Sessions, Innovation in the Sun and Def:Inition as well as a hectic worldwide DJ schedule that has seen them put pins in the globe everywhere from Atlanta to Zagreb!

Radio appearances on Pyro Radio and BBC 1xtra to name a few have also been warmly received and have helped VC gain a strong fan base across the globe.

The future is looking bright for the London crew with a solid stack of releases covering the full DnB spectrum lined up over the coming months including material for DnB godfather Shy Fx’s Digital Soundboy imprint and Kasra’s forward thinking Critical Music amongst others. A debut artist album alongside Universal Project is scheduled to drop towards the end of the year with early tracks receiving huge support from the scene’s big dogs and 2008 could also see VC launching their own label.

So with a new found versatility to their productions giving them the tools to bridge the gap between the ever growing sub-genres of our scene, Vicious Circle could well become the new heroes of Drum & Bass. Watch this space……..
